# Topics

> See what customers ask about most and where the assistant struggles, based on the chat tags homie applies automatically.

The **Topics** view turns your conversations into topic-based insights. homie automatically tags each conversation by what shoppers ask about, and Topics aggregates those [chat tags](/en/user-guide/chat-management/chat-tags) so you can see the themes that drive conversations — without reading chats one by one.

Open your assistant on the platform and go to **Analytics → Topics**. Like the rest of analytics, every card respects the **date range** you select (and, for in-store assistants, the store filter).

## What the Topics view shows

* **Topic distribution** — the share of each topic category across your chats, so you can see which kinds of questions dominate.
* **Opening topic** — the topics conversations start with, which tells you why shoppers reach out.
* **Top subtags** — the most common individual topics in your chats.
* **Negative ratings by topic** — the topics that appear most often in chats with negative feedback, together with the reasons shoppers gave.

## Find knowledge gaps

**Negative ratings by topic** is the fastest way to spot gaps. When a topic shows up often among negative ratings, that's a signal your [knowledge](/en/user-guide/knowledge/overview) is missing content shoppers need. Open the linked chats to read what went wrong, then add or improve that content so the assistant handles the topic better next time.

<Tip>
  Topics is powered by [chat tags](/en/user-guide/chat-management/chat-tags). A clear, well-organized tag taxonomy makes these breakdowns more useful.
